At our April chapter meeting we will hear from experts about upcoming A2L refrigerants, the future of heat pump systems for commercial applications, and optimization of refrigeration controls. Named for their ASHRAE safety classification, A2L refrigerants are characterized by mild flammability, low toxicity, and low global warming potential (GWP). A2L refrigerants offer similar operating characteristics to legacy refrigerants while being more efficient than R-410A. A2Ls have emerged as replacements for older, high-impact refrigerants. Historically, there have been limitations to using heat pump technologies to address larger scale commercial systems. As part of this meeting, we will explore future applications for air to water and water to water heat pump systems. Most HVAC systems are made up of inefficient fixed speed compressors. Scroll compressors make up 60% of the marketand the rest are reciprocating, for which there is no other solution to install a VFD,…
