Some have suggested that NYC needs to electrify everything, London Economics has recently undertaken a NYC Energy Infrastructure Long Term Plan Review.

Join us for an informative presentation on Nov 9th at 1 PM.  This will be a special joint meeting (via Zoom) with the NY Energy Consumers Council.

In 2021 London Economics International (LEI) was engaged by Source One, The Durst Organization and the Energy Consumers Council (NYECC) to review long-term planning for electrification in NYC. That report documented the very significant costs that would be required to prepare the electric grid in NYC just to  be able to accommodate electrification of NYC’s building’s loads.   LEI was recently engaged by NYECC to prepare an update memo that explores developments in the last year in the electricity and gas sectors in New York State, with respect to policy and regulatory updates, investment plans, as well as relevant analysis issued by state agencies, such as the New York State Climate Action Council (“NYS CAC”) and the New York Independent System Operator (“NYISO”).  At this special joint presentation LEI will share their update for a winter NYC peak load that surpasses the summer peak by 2029.  LEI has estimated that thousands of additional Megawatts must be added to NYC’s incremental peak load for building electrification.  Costs could increase by $7 Billion annually and total over $36 Billion.

Given the current focus in NY on electrification, we suspect that there will be significant interest from our members in hearing the findings directly from those who did the study.
