About The Event

It’s been a while since we took a deep dive into demand response and there have been many changes to the electric grid since we last took a look. At this meeting we will hear from experts about the benefits and opportunities for Demand Response. We will also hear about some novel ways to participate in demand response and about ways in which buildings are being designed and retrofitted to benefit the grid, the environment and property owners.

In the February chapter meeting, we will bring in speakers from three organizations which are forging new ground in demand response and Interactivity.

Bios

Sam Bergami is a Distributed Resources Operations Engineer with the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), which operates New York’s high-voltage transmission system, manages the state’s competitive wholesale electricity markets, and conducts comprehensive power system planning. In her current role, Sam is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the NYISO’s Demand Response Programs and development and operation of the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) participation model.

Since joining the NYISO in 2020, Sam has supported multiple market initiatives, including Improving Capacity Accreditation for Special Case Resources (SCR), Aggregations and DER. Sam has also been a key contributor to the development of the DER Participation model, specifically focused on the Capacity Market rules and implementation and user acceptance testing (UAT) for DER and the Aggregation System.

Sam holds both a Master's in Engineering and Management Systems degree from Clarkson University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from Siena College.

Sarah Millar is the Director of Virtual Power Plant Operations at OhmConnect, where she oversees the day-to-day management of OhmConnect's California and New York VPPs. She and her team are responsible for scheduling user dispatches and coordinating with ecosystem partners (e.g. ConEd & NYISO) on OhmConnect users' contribution to the grid.

Arthur W. Pearson has been involved with multiple aspects of the energy industry since entering the field over 40 years ago. Beginning as a utility rate analyst and petroleum purchasing specialist, he soon moved on to become the Energy Manager For MetLife’s Corporate Property Management team where he developed some of the earliest deregulated electric contracts in California and New York, along with overseeing tens of millions of dollars of energy efficiency projects. While there he became involved with energy regulatory issues and that resulted in the next stage of his career, where for almost a decade he represented clients before public service commissions, ISO’s and worked with legislators on energy efficiency bills. He was then hired by a former associate to lead Lockheed Martin’s business development team that promoted Con Edison’s commercial and industrial incentive program. Now at Blueprint Power his primary area of responsibility is overseeing their regulatory affairs efforts and providing support to their project teams.
