To meet GHG emission reduction targets, much emphasis is put on electrification with hope of generating 70% of required electricity with renewable sources by 2030.  Energy storage plays critical role in ensuring stable and uninterruptible electricity supply with renewable sources.

Our speakers for April 19th meeting will provide insights and updates on current and projected “State of Storage”.  

Recently NYS PSC released third ‘State of Storage’ report where it reported total deployed and awarded or contracted projects at the end of 2021.  The press release which summarizes the report can be found here.  

Our speakers are:

John Cerveny | Director of Resource Development | New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium

• John Cerveny is the Director of Resource Development for NY-BEST where he leads efforts to make connections between and among members, funding sources and the community at large. Cerveny manages the NY-BEST BRIDGE program that serves as a virtual incubator for energy storage companies and startups. Immediately prior to his work with NY-BEST, he was founder and President of New Energy Resources in Schenectady and Vice President at TechCity Properties in Kingston, NY.
• Cerveny has held senior leadership positions at a number of cleantech companies—including Plug Power, GE MicroGen, MTI MicroFuel Cells and Lilliputian Systems. Cerveny previously served as a NYSERDA Entrepreneur in Residence and mentored numerous companies through the CleanTech Open.
• He earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the Lally School of Business at RPI.

Pete Falcier | VP, Analytics & Regulatory Affairs | Endurant Energy

Pete coordinates Endurant Energy's distributed energy resource (DER) project development process from business model conceptualization to energy & financial modeling, through state and federal incentives, and into Measurement & Verification (M&V) and commercial operations. In his 15-year tenure at Endurant, he has led the firm from its initial CHP focus into a pioneering position in the New York energy storage industry. He was principal author of the novel energy storage model that is now the company’s Con Edison REV Demonstration project (then under GI Energy), which helped kickstart the burgeoning Community DG (CDG) storage market in New York City. Pete has presented on DER development and tariffs to the US Department of Energy Electricity Advisory Committee (US DOE EAC), the New York Battery and Energy Storage (NY-BEST) Technology Consortium, and to heads of staff of the New York State Department of Public Service (NYS DPS) and Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (CT DEEP). 

Pete joined Endurant after graduating from the Columbia University School of International & Public Affairs (SIPA), where he received a master’s degree in Energy Management & Policy. 

Bobby Sciortino | Director of Project Management | Endurant Energy

Bobby is the EPC lead in Endurant Energy’s New York office. He manages the end-to-end implementation of distributed generation projects where Endurant performs full EPC or GC scopes of work. He also provides input during the sales and development process based on his engineering and construction experience.

Since starting with Endurant, Bobby has managed to completion more than 16 fuel cell projects totaling 15 MW nameplate, three (3) 1 MW/1 MWh Li-ion Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) installed in New York City, and a pioneering “energy pile” ground-source heat pump (GSHP) project for a new office tower in Manhattan. He is currently overseeing the construction of 5 MW of fuel cells and three (3) new energy storage projects in New York City totaling 12 MW/44 MWh nameplate. He is known in certain circles in the NYC storage industry as “Bobby Battery”. 

He holds an MS in Sustainability Management and a BS in Mechanical Engineering, both from Columbia University.
